ANNOUNCING:

THE DEBUT OF QUEREMOS MAS

March 1, 2022

This site, developed as part of my Introduction to Mexican American Studies course in fall 2021 is an open pedagogy project that provides a repository and hub of lesson plans for Mexican American Studies educators from K-16 and perhaps even beyond. These student-driven lessons emerged from a Design-Your-Own Lesson project that was the capstone project for the Mexican American Studies course. It is with tremendous pride that the site is now published and ready to share con todo el mundo.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME

Growing up, I always said that my dream was to stay in school forever. I was that nerdy kid who couldn't wait until the first day of school, who read all summer, who was constantly asking questions and correcting the grammar of people around me, and who lettered in--wait for it--literary criticism. (Ay, qué vergüenza.) As a mixed Chicana from a single-parent household I lacked close role models for attending college, but school was always a safe haven for me. So I knew that I wanted to go to college and eventually graduate school. My mom tells the story about how I began asking her about what comes after college as early as age 4. Now, as an educator in college and adult language and literacy, I'm living my dream. Teaching reading and writing, literature, cultural and ethnic studies, and ESL has even brightened and accentuated that original dream because it has added and combined the dreams of so many men and women who seek to grow and transform their own lives and those of their families and communities. Through education, we empower each other to create, to give voice to our communities, and to effect change.
